For the last year I have been working at Ernelsthorpe Nursing home in Armthorpe, Doncaster. I originally started as a Care assistant but have recently gained promotion to a Senior care Assistant.
The residents are both residential, EMI and Nursing with varying levels of care requirements, such as Palliative care, Stroke, sensory loss, adults with learning disabilities and general elderly patients.
My role as a Senior has been very rewarding and with the added responsibility of medication dispensing, care plan updating, liaising with other external health care professionals and staff management I feel I am revelling in the role.
Prior to this for 6 years I thoroughly enjoyed gaining extensive experience as a domiciliary care worker for Mears group and Age UK. This enabled me to use my excellent interpersonal skills to their fullest, helping and caring for the elderly, acute mental health patients, stroke and sensory loss patients. Often this has involved liaising with outside agencies like Social Services, CPN’s and local councils to ensure the wellbeing of my service users by managing their day to day care plans, dietary and domestic requirements.
I have a zest for ambition and have took it upon myself to achieve an NVQ level 3 status in Health and Social care. I have also achieved level 2 in Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, level 2 in Safe Handling of Medicines, level 2 in Understanding Dementia Care and a level 2 in Food Safety and Catering.
