I would describe myself as honest reliable caring and kind. I love keeping busy and need a fulfilling purpose in my life. I retired from South Yorkshire Police in 2018 after serving nearly 28 years as a frontline Police Constable. But retirement would not suit me so I have worked ever since retiring.
I have also been instrumental in setting up and running 2 mental health initiatives which is a voluntary role.
I enjoy meeting people and throughout my life I have helped vulnerable people.
I am a good communicator and I believe being a good listener is key to this.
I can connect with people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs and they often confide in me.
I enjoy hearing people’s life stories and helping people to overcome any challenges they may face.
I also enjoy challenging my clients to be successful in conquering achievable tasks that they want to try but do not have the confidence to attempt.
An example of this is that recently a teenage autistic client wanted to conquer his fear of heights. With my support and encouragement he has now climbed Stanage Edge.
I have many interests including the outdoors, wildlife and nature. I was a police dog handler for 22 years and my retired Police Dog is a huge part of my life. I love animals and I am a registered volunteer with Riding for Disabled and I regularly attend with clients.
I am very keen on physical sports especially rugby and my son plays for Rotherham.
I have done a MIND course on MH Awareness for Sport and Physical Activities and regularly take and support autistic teenagers at at the gym.
If I had a wish in life it would be for my son to be happy healthy and successful.
I ask for little for myself and consider myself to have been very lucky to have been a Police Officer which I loved.
But also a care worker which I always say is a vocation and not like a job.
I work with some amazing unique people and feel privileged to be trusted with supporting them.
