Important Weather Warning: Stay Safe in the Heat
We’ve been asked to share some important information regarding the upcoming hot weather. While many of us enjoy the summer sunshine, high temperatures can pose health risks like overheating, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
To help you stay safe and well, please keep the following advice in mind:
- Avoid direct sun during the hottest part of the day, specifically between 11 am and 3 pm
- If you’re planning physical activity like exercise or dog walking, try to do it during cooler times of the day, such as the morning or evening.
- Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that get direct sunlight.
If you do go outside, make sure to cover up with appropriate clothing, including a hat and sunglasses. Seek out shade and remember to apply sunscreen. - Drink plenty of fluids and try to limit your alcohol consumption. You can find information about water stations across Doncaster at Home – Refill – find places to eat, drink and shop with less waste.
- Check in on family, friends, and neighbours who might be more vulnerable to heat-related illness. If you’re at higher risk yourself, don’t hesitate to ask others to check on you.
Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and know what to do if you or someone else experiences them.
Stay safe and enjoy the summer responsibly!
