Advice and advocacy
Our small but experienced team offers specialist advice and support to disabled people across region who are struggling to overcome barriers.
The various aspects of our service are funded by a variety of sources, so there is no charge to service users who meet the qualifying criteria.
Our services are currently available in the Doncaster and Rotherham area.
Advice is for when you need to know something. We offer advice and signposting on a range of issues effecting disabled people.
Advocacy is for when you need support to do something.
You might need support getting access to something simple, or you could need somebody to argue your case in front of a judge. The aim is to get you from where you are to where you need to be.
The work of an advocate is tailored to the specific needs of their client.
We talk from experience.
Active Independence is a Disabled Person's User Led Organisation. This means the project is managed by disabled people, for disabled people.
We have personal experience of the various barriers facing disabled people, be they:
We know our way round:
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
- Resource Allocation System (RAS)
- Personal Budgets
- Individual Employment
- Social Care Packages
The Active Independence team has been there and we've got the T-Shirts. Our aim is to support others when they get there.
