Carer/Alz Society Volunteer/Support Worker
  • 01/07/2020

I have been a carer for many years. I have brought up five children including my severely autistic son who is now twenty eight and still lives at home.

I have always worked as a volunteer alongside my home caring duties. I volunteered for the British Red Cross as a Home from hospital visitor for two years and for the Alzheimers Society as a memory cafe volunteer and then as a befriender from 2008 to 2015. I am currently volunteering as a Dementia Champion with the Dementia Friends Programme run by the Alzheimer's Society.
I have gained a lot of experience from both caring for my son and the work I have done as a volunteer.
Since 2015 I have worked as a paid Personal Assistant and Support Worker for three people living with Dementia gaining more experience with each person and increasing my love of the job.
For the last four years I have been working with a gentleman with Alzheimers . I have supported him to continue to live well and to remain active within the community while providing much needed respite time for his partner. The gentleman has now moved into a care home so I am looking for a new person to support.

I am hardworking and have a good sense of humour and love working as a Personal Assistant. I am particularly interested in Dementia but would be happy to learn new skills. Working as a P.A. I have gained more insight into Dementia and how it affects the person living with it and their family. I would like to further my experience in a similar role and hopefully put to use what I have learned in order to help another person.
I believe people can live well with Dementia despite all of its challenges and love to be a part of making that possible.
I am available for work Monday to Friday daytime hours 10.00/4.00. Some flexibility including weekend hours could be arranged. I am interested in providing care as a sit in service or out amongst the community. I pride myself in providing a very person centred approach to suit each individual and their needs.

I am now a Dementia Champion and as a volunteer with the Alzheimers Society hold Dementia Friend sessions
and help to increase awareness about dementia within the community.
