Advice and Advocacy

Our small but experienced team offers specialist Advocacy to Disabled People across our region who are struggling to overcome barriers.

The various aspects of our service are funded by a variety of sources, so there is no charge to people needing advocacy support.

Advocacy

Advocacy is for when you need support to do something.

You might need support getting access to something simple, such as a Blue Badge or you could need somebody to argue your case in front of a judge. The aim is to give you a voice to get you from where you are to where you need to be.

The work of an advocate is tailored to the specific needs of their client.

We Talk From Experience

Active Independence is a Disabled Person's User Led Organisation. This means the project is managed by Disabled people, for Disabled people.

We have personal experience of the various barriers facing Disabled people, be they:

  • Social
  • Environmental
  • Political
  • Financial

We know our way round:

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Other Disability Welfare entitlements
  • Personal Health Budgets
  • Direct Payments
  • Being an Individual Employer of PAs
  • Other services you may need such as Housing, Information. Equipment and Transport.

The Active Independence team has been there and we've got the T-Shirts. Our aim is to support others when they get there.
