Energy use: Smart Meters & Priority Services

South Yorkshire self-advocacy group Speakup are working with Yorkshire Water and energy supplies to encourage people with  disabilities who live in Yorkshire, to register for Priority Services Register and Smart Meters.

Priority Services Register – Water

Did you know that if you’re disabled you can go on a Priority Services Register for water as well as for energy companies? It’s easy to join and offers help such as large print, audio or Braille copies of bills, priority support during planned works or any interruption of your supply, help with meter reading or to manage your account under the nominee scheme.

Information about the register and how to apply to be on it is on the Yorkshire Water website here.

Smart Meters

Smart Meters help individuals and families keep control of their energy bills by supporting people to find ways to reduce energy waste around the home. All you have to do is call your energy company and check if you can get a smart meter.

If you don’t have anyone around to support you and don’t feel confident in doing this yourself, Speakup can help you do this. Please ring their office number with your energy details to hand on a Tuesday morning, and we will do this with you. Their number is 01709 720462
