Active Independence growing up!

Cake to celebrate! On Tuesday 16th of October 2012 we had a small celebration to mark the occasion of our 1st anniversary and also the day from which we are now renting office space! 1 1/2 days a week at the Friends Meeting House)

This has been an amazing year for us growing from a small peer support group into a fully fledged organisation delivering much needed services. Key achievements have been:

  • launching this website, developing our new image and increasing our membership
  • becoming a registered charity and company limited by guarantee
  • getting proper insurance cover ( public liability and professional indemnity) and data protection registration
  • through a grant from the Office for Disability Issues Facilitation Fund delivering over 200 hours Advocacy to over 40 disabled people, carers and family members
  • securing a contract with Skills for Care to run events to inform individual employers about the resources and support available to them and registering their PAs with the  National Minimum Dataset
  • developing a database of over 40 PAs
  • developing a new course about the role of a PA “from carer to PA “which started Monday 15th October, funded by the Humberside Learning Consortium

We face many challenges in year ahead , particularly in securing funding to continue our services, but through the commitment and hard work of our committee members we will continue to strive to ensure disabled people  lead independent lives

If you would like to come and meet us in an informal atmosphere please join us for lunch at the Maple Tree,  Plantations , Doncaster, from 1 PM on Tesday 23rd of October
