Active Independence at Disability Awareness Day

9 AM on Saturday morning (30 June) saw Brian and Dawn, with help from Jeanette and Shaun setting up our stand at Doncaster’s Disability Awareness Day. We were pleased to find ourselves next to the Modernisation Team and opposite the Personalisation Forum Group, both of whom we work closely with.

Skills For Care had kindly given us a number of booklets, resources and badges which we set up alongside our own newsletters, leaflets and information sheets. The event was opened by one of our members Toyah Wordsworth who is also chair of the Doncaster Disability Cluster (and was spotted partying into the night at the Madness concert that evening !).

We spoke with lots of disabled people , carers and workers , giving information and advice on a range issues including independent living , employing and training PAs , support available to carers and Indirect payments . Overall a very worthwhile few hours , thanks to Colin Findlay for his mammoth efforts organising it
