£20 Million Grant Announced

The government has recently announced £20 million additional funding for the Disabled Facilities Grant in England. The Department for Communities and Local Government will soon be telling each individual local authority how much they will be allocated.

The Disabled Facilities Grant was protected from the cuts in public spending and additional funding is now being provided to help more people live as independently as possible in their own homes through the provision of adaptations. The grant provides financial assistance for a wide range of housing adaptations ranging from stair lifts, to level access showers and home extensions. The government believes this demonstrates their commitment to improving the lives of many disabled people by helping them to continue living in their homes for longer.

Active Independence hopes that the process of being assessed for a grant funded adaptation is made smoother and easier.
